I am running for election have been elected to the Higher Education Committee of the University and College Union. This site has more information about what I think we need to do, and how we need to do it.

I am a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath, active in UCU since I came to the UK in 2000. I have been branch vice-president and president, a delegate to my regional committee since its foundation, and since 2014 regional chair. I chair the branch negotiating committee which has won concessions on Prevent, casualization, unlawfully-withheld holiday pay, lecture-recording, and compulsory redundancies. Four years ago, I began organizing the first ever UCU presence at the Tolpuddle festival, and have continued to be involved in it since then.

I have been a Congress delegate for a number of years, moving successful motions on Vice-Chancellor’s remuneration and on extending the union’s legal advice scheme to employment-related immigration issues, among others.

I am an active member of Bath Trades Council.

Professionally, I am a mid-career middle-ranking academic old enough to worry about his pension but young enough to be stuck in the job for a couple of decades yet.

I am the only candidate in this election who is not backed by a faction. I am an immigrant.
